Video Interview: Tutors complete a video interview, which is reviewed for quality through both AI scoring and human evaluation to identify top candidates.
Subject Expertise Validation: Tutors take assessments to verify their knowledge of specific subjects and age groups, ensuring they are equipped to provide accurate, up-to-date instruction.

How can I rate my tutor or provide feedback on my session?

You can rate your tutor and provide feedback in two ways:

  1. Immediately After Your Session:

    • Once your session ends, you’ll see a screen prompting you to rate the session from 1 to 5 stars (1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest).
  2. Via Email:
      • After your session, you’ll receive an email with a link to rate your session and share your feedback.

Your feedback helps us ensure the highest quality of tutoring and improve the overall learning experience.

How do I schedule a tutoring session?

If you are currently engaged with a Tutor and want to schedule a session with that tutor:

  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  2. Click on My Schedule in the left side menu.
  3. Click on the date you wish to schedule session on the calendar.
  4. Select Schedule.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
  6. Click Continue to Review once all information is filled out.
  7. Finalize your session by clicking Confirm and Schedule

 

If you are not currently engaged with a Tutor, or would like to add a new tutor for a new subject or for another Learner:

  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.t.
  2. Click Live 1:1 Tutoring  located on the left side menu.
  3. Click Add tutoring in a new subject.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts for:
    1. Subject
    2. Frequency
    3. Availability
    4. Start Date
    5. Goal
  5. Finalize your request by clicking Submit Request.

How do I reschedule a tutoring session?
  1. In order to reschedule a tutoring session:
  2. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  3. Choose the correct student’s profile by clicking on the Initials icon in the top right corner of the My Learning Dashboard, if you have more than one Student on your account. 
  4. Click on My Schedule in the left side menu.
  5. In the upper right corner, locate the session you wish to reschedule within the Upcoming box.
  6. Click on the 3 dots within the right side of the session box.
  7. Select Edit Session.
  8. Follow the on-screen prompts
  9. Finalize by clicking Update Session.
  10. If you need immediate tutoring help and cannot wait to schedule, access Instant Tutoring here to be matched with an available instant tutor. This is also accessible at the top of the My Learning Dashboard.

Important Note: Sessions that are scheduled to begin within the next 24 hours cannot be rescheduled through your account page on the Platform. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session within 24 hours of its scheduled start time, notify your tutor directly using the Messaging feature through the Platform. How do I cancel a tutoring session?
  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  2. Navigate to the My Schedule section in the menu on the left.
  3. Check Upcoming on the right side of the screen and locate the tutoring session you wish to cancel.
  4. Click on the three dots within the right side of the tutoring session box.
  5. Select Cancel Session (in red).
  6. Confirm that you would like to cancel the session by clicking the red Cancel button within the pop-up screen.

 

Important Note: Sessions cannot be canceled within 24 hours. If you need to cancel a session within this timeframe, notify your tutor directly through your account. More information on our session cancelation policy here.

What should I do if I can't attend a scheduled session today?

If your session starts in less than 24 hours, please contact your tutor directly to cancel (or attempt to reschedule). Keep in mind that your account may still be reduced by 30 minutes, as outlined in the Terms of Customer Account Use. If you do not provide your tutor notice of your need to cancel a confirmed session, then your account may be reduced by the full session length.

What is Varsity Tutors' session cancellation policy?

We understand that schedules can change. Sessions must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled tutoring session in order to avoid it being invoiced to your account/deducted from your hours, as more fully described below.

Key Details About Session Cancellations and Rescheduling:

  • Advance Notice Required: Canceling or rescheduling a session requires at least 24 hours' notice in order to avoid being invoiced or have deductions to the hours in your account.  For the benefit of the tutor, please cancel or reschedule as soon as you are able, rather than waiting until just before the 24 hour notice deadline.
  • Late Cancellation or Rescheduling Policy: If a session is canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, 30 minutes will be deducted from your tutoring hours; however, the tutor may be able to remove some or all of the invoice or deduction.
  • Why This Practice Exists: Tutors reserve time specifically for your session, and can invoice late cancellations or rescheduling to your account because they have already allocated the time, preparation, turned down other opportunities, etc., and it may impact their schedules.

Rescheduling: Regardless of the amount of notice, it is also best to try to reschedule another tutoring session rather than just cancel, so you know when your next scheduled session will occur.

How do I get a new tutor or replace my current tutor?

We’re committed to ensuring you have the best possible learning experience. 

Follow these steps to request a New Tutor for a new subject or for a different student:

  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  2. Choose the correct student’s profile by clicking on the Initials icon in the top right corner of the My Learning Dashboard, if you have more than one Student on your account.  
  3. Select Live 1:1 Tutoring within the left side menu on the My Learning Dashboard.
  4. Select Add tutoring in a new subject.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate a new tutor search.

If your tutor isn’t the right fit, or you would like to replace a tutor for any reason, you may do so at any time. 

When submitting your request, please provide as much detail as possible about your learning goals and preferences, as well as why you don’t think the tutor was a good fit to help us match you with the ideal tutor. The more information we have, the better the potential match with the new tutor.  Our team will reach out if additional information is needed.

Follow these steps to Replace a Current Tutor:

  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  2. Choose the correct student’s profile by clicking on the Initials icon in the top right corner of the My Learning Dashboard, if you have more than one Student on your account. 
  3. Select My Tutors within the left side menu on the My Learning Dashboard.
  4. Locate your current tutor and click on Details.
  5. Select Replace Tutor.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate a new tutor search.

 

Important Note:

Once you submit your request to replace a tutor, you will no longer be engaged with your current tutor, and a new tutor request will be initiated.

How do I get help before I am matched with a tutor?

If you have not yet been matched with a tutor, you can get immediate support through our Instant Tutoring feature. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  2. Choose the correct student’s profile by clicking on the Initials icon in the top right corner of the My Learning Dashboard, if you have more than one Student on your account. 
  3. Click the Instant Tutoring button at the top of the page.
  4. Select the subject.
  5. Enter the topic or goal you'd like to review and click Request Session.
  6. Click Start Session Now.

You’ll be connected with a vetted, qualified tutor within minutes to assist with your needs right away!

What do I do if I want to replace my tutor?

We’re committed to ensuring you have the best possible learning experience. If your tutor isn’t the right fit, or you would like to replace a tutor for any reason, you may do so at any time.

How to Replace a Tutor:

  1. Log in to your Varsity Tutors account.
  2. Choose the correct student’s profile by clicking on the Initials icon in the top right corner of the My Learning Dashboard, if you have more than one Student on your account. 
  3. Select My Tutors within the left side menu on the My Learning Dashboard.
  4. Locate your current tutor and click on Details.
  5. Select Replace Tutor.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate a new tutor search.

When submitting your request, please provide as much detail as possible about your learning goals and preferences, as well as why you don’t think the tutor was a good fit to help us match you with the ideal tutor. The more information we have, the better the potential match with the new tutor.  Our team will reach out if additional information is needed.

What should I do if my tutor doesn’t show up to my session?

We’re sorry to hear that your tutor didn’t attend your session. Here are steps you can take to resolve the issue:

  • Contact Your Tutor Directly: Log in to your account and message your tutor to check their availability.
  • Get Immediate Assistance: If you need help right away, use Instant Tutoring to connect with a tutor in minutes.
  • Reschedule or Request a New Tutor: Log in to your account to schedule a new session with your current tutor or request a different tutor if needed.
